Wine Biscuits

Half-pound butter, ¾ lb. castor sugar

From 1922:

Half-pound butter, ¾ lb. castor sugar, 3 eggs, 1 lb. self-raising flour, ½ lb. ground rice, 1 teaspoonful hartshorn, the juice of 1 large lemon, ½ cupful warm milk. Roll very thin; bake in a medium oven to a light brown.
