From 1915:
Every girl should know how to cook a little, is my theory. There is always some time or other in her life when she wishes she could make something for the table all by herself. I know I felt that way before I made up my mind to learn to cook, just a little.
My favorite recipe is for scones.
The ingredients are one pound of flour, one quarter pound of butter, one-half small teaspoon of salt, one quarter teaspoon of soda and one quarter teaspoonful of tartaric acid.
Mix all these with milk enough to make stiff. Roll out half an inch thick, but with a tumbler and bake about 15 or 20 minutes.
