From 1922:
Cream together a cup of sugar with half-cup any preferred shortening; add two well whipped eggs, one and a half cups of flour into which has been sifted one teaspoon cinnamon, and one and a half teaspoons salt. Add two cups rolled oats, one and a half cups seeded raisins (chopped), three-fourths cup chopped nuts, and lastly one tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar in which has been mixed one scant teaspoon of soda. Mix well, roll out as for teacakes, cut with the cookie cutter and bake in a moderate oven. I prefer brown sugar, but white can be used. – Mrs. S.C.R.
