From 1922:
Take 6 lb. Plums, 2 lb. sugar, 2 pints vinegar, ½ oz. allspice, 5 cloves, 4 pieces of bruised ginger, 1 teaspoonful salt, ½ teaspoonful pepper. Boil till fruit leaves the stone, and then strain through a colander and bottle when cold. The most delicious sauce with cold meat.
