NOUGAT BISCUITS

Take ½ cupful of flour, ¾ cupful

From 1922:

Take ½ cupful of flour, ¾ cupful of sugar, 2 cupfuls John Bull oats, ½ cupful melted butter or beef dripping, 1 dessertspoonful treacle, 1 teaspoonful bicarbonate of soda, 2 tablespoonfuls boiling water. Mix flour, John Bull oats and sugar together, stir in melted butter; add the soda dissolved in boiling water. Mix well. Put in teaspoonfuls on a greased oven slide. Bake in moderate oven and watch closely, as they burn easily.
