There are a variety of recipes for making this beverage, but there are few better than the following:
Boil a quart of water with ¾ lb. of loaf sugar, and pour the syrup over the rind of 6 lemons.
Let them soak for two or three hours.
Add the strained juice of the lemons and 2 quarts of water.
Pass the whole through a jelly bag, and serve in glass jugs.
This will be sufficient for 7 pints.
