Six lemons,

From 1922:

Six lemons, 2 oranges, 13 breakfastcupfuls of cold water, 9 lb. sugar. Soak finely sliced fruit in water for 48 hours, then place on stove and boil for one hour, add sugar and boil for another hour quickly.
