Ginger Bread Cake

From 1922:

One cupful of sugar, 1 cupful of treacle, 1 cupful of butter; beat well together then add 1 cupful of milk, 2 eggs, 2 teaspoonfuls of ginger, 1 teaspoonful of cinnamon, same quantity of nutmeg, 3 cupfuls of flour, 2 teaspoonfuls of soda dissolved in warm water. Melt butter, sugar, and treacle, then add eggs, well beaten, then milk and soda. Pour this into the centre of flour, and other ingredients and mix well. Bake in a slow oven.
