Take 3 cupfuls self-raising flour, 1 cupful butter or dripping, 1 cupful sugar, 1 cupful treacle, 1 cupful hot strong coffee, 2 eggs, 2 teaspoonfuls mixed spice, ¼ lb. almonds. Beat butter and sugar to a cream, add eggs well beaten, then beat in flour and spice; dissolve treacle in hot coffee and add to mixture. Put in small roasting tin lined with well-buttered paper. Blanch almonds and dot over top of cake. Bake in a moderate oven for three-quarters of an hour.
