CHUTNEY SAUCE

Two pounds tomatoes or apples not

Two pounds tomatoes or apples not quite ripe, one pound stoned raisins, one pound brown sugar, one pound onions, half pound candied peel, two tablespoonfuls or half pound of salt, two tablespoonfuls or half pound of ground ginger, two tablespoonfuls curry powder, one ounce garlic, one teaspoonful cayenne pepper, or less according to taste, one teaspoonful cloves. Chop all very fine. Boil in one quart vinegar for half an hour. When cool, bottle and keep in a dark place.
