Butter Milk Cake

Take ¼ lb. of butter or

Take ¼ lb. of butter or good dripping, 1 cupful brown sugar, 1 cupful cleaned currants, 1 cupful buttermilk, 2 cupfuls flour, ½ pint mixed spice, ½ teaspoonful prated nutmeg, ½ teaspoonful cinnamon, 1 heaped teaspoonful carbonate of soda, pinch of salt.
Bake in moderate oven for 1 ¼ hours.
