BROWN WALNUT CAKE

Half a pound of butter

Half a pound of butter, ½ lb. dark sugar, 2 tablespoonfuls of golden syrup. Cream them in a basin, then mix in the eggs, half a cupful of milk (in which one teaspoonful of carbonate of soda has been dissolved), three quarters of a cupful of walnuts; heat well together, then add two and a half cupfuls of flour; pour into a greased tin, and bake in a moderate oven one hour.
