From 1911:

Four teaspoons baking powder, one-half teaspoon salt, one-half cup flour, two eggs, two tablespoons butter, one and one-half cups scalded milk and one and one-half cups fine stale bread crumbs.
Mode of Preparing:
Add milk and butter to crumbs and let soak until soft; add eggs well beaten, then the
dry Ingredients, well mixed and sifted. Drop by teaspoons on a hot, greased griddle; cook on one side.
When puffed full of bubbles and cooked on edges, turn and cook on other side.
